The Drake Hotel

Conceptualized by famed creator Benjamin Howard Marshall, The Drake Hotel came to fruition once John B. Drake and Tracy Corey Drake supported the project in 1919. The doors of The Drake Hotel opened on New Year’s Eve the following year to two,000 of Chicago’s most distinguished citizens.

Throughout the roaring twenties The Drake became high-society’s first alternative in luxuriousness. The Fountain Court, now identified as the Palm Court, hosted Chicago's social elite daily for The popularity of the illustrious urban resort continued  to rise well into the Thirties ostensibly unaffected by the crash of 1929. A.D the  Icons such as Bing Crosby, Walt Disney, George Gershwin, and Charles Lindbergh can be seen sipping a cocktail and taking note of Herbie Kay within the Gold Coast space.

In 1932 the Cape Cod Room became Chicago’s 1st alternative for cannon fodder and food and therefore the nation’s 1st themed eating place. Twenty years
On December sixth, 1933, the day after prohibition was repealed, the favor of thirsty patrons eager to purchase a 40 cent hard drink. In the 1940s it became an area repair for reporters, politicians though it ne'er the lost, and even some notorious characters,  true Chicago crowd.

In 1940, The Drake sign was illuminated set the hotel’s rightful place in . The 40s proved most internationally recognized skyline to be a decade of large amendment, both at The Drake and accommodate around the world. The Palm Court changed seasonally  the ever-changing roof of the mouth of the subtle patrons. In the winter, to set the vacation tone, the fountain was replaced with a 2,000-pound fireplace.

Throughout the 50s and 60s the political and of Chicago social climate was evolving and The Drake was inclined to develop alongside town. By the 1970s the John American Revolutionary leader Center towered over The Drake ,half  century  providing a frame of evolution for the  building.

In 1980 Hilton International acquired The Drake building and restored  it to its former glory. The Drake Hotel guests see nowadays provides the grandeur of the past and high society is accommodations fitting for today’s.

Though The Drake has progressed each architecturally and technologically, the roots of The Drake Hotel run deep to a lower place Lake Shore Drive into Real Chicago.
