Hotel Julien Dubuque

The Hotel Julien became known  as one amongst the best hotels within the geographical region and hosted several grand
banquets and famous guests. But of all the personages aforementioned to have stayed within the building Julien, none has
aroused more curiosity and speculation than the ill-famed Chicago malefactor AI Capone. Local lore
alleges that when things got “hot” in Chicago. Capone would travel with his cortege to town,
hiding out in the building Julien. He reportedly made use of a close underground garage to cover his cars
and further conceal his presence in town. Some say he even owned the building at one purpose.
Letters from the private records of gladiator Pfohl, who purchased the property in 1962,corroborate
accounts of Capone not solely staying at the building, but owning it as well. “When I took over the Julien in
1962 there were two those that were aware of the situation;’ Pfohl wrote, “The story I heard was
that when Capone came to city he took over the entire eighth floor which his guards were stationed
at all stairways and elevators. The hotel staff would bring the food up on the elevator and provides
it to the guards, but they might not continue the ground The eight floor would give Capone’s look out associate

“feds” or rival gangs might cross the Mississippi from Illinois. In one letter;  also writes this Capone

claim. he  came, looked through the books,  she said, and left
